Monza, a spectacular four-goal performance: Varela puts Cagliari in their place with two goals and an assist

Monza crushed Cagliari with a decisive 4-0 victory, securing their second league win, moving up to 7 points, and gaining a three-point cushion over the relegation zone. It was a convincing performance by Juric’s team, which took control of the match between the end of the first half and the start of the second, before running rampant in the second half. For Pisacane’s Rossoblù, however, it was a sudden setback, marking their second loss in Serie A.
The start of the match was evenly matched, with both teams careful not to give up any space. Between the 20th and 26th minutes, however, it was Cagliari that created the most dangerous chances. On both occasions, it was Tornqvist who saved Monza, denying first Nzola and then Mendy, thus preventing the Rossoblù from taking the lead.
Just when it seemed that Pisacane’s team had control of the match, the Brianza side struck. In the 39th minute, Maldini lost possession, and Mota took advantage to send Kouadio on a deep run. The Italian defender found himself one-on-one with Caprile and beat him with a precise right-footed shot, putting Monza ahead. The first half thus ended 1-0, with Juric’s team ruthlessly capitalizing on their chance.
In the second half, the home team came out with renewed energy and took just two minutes to double their lead. In the 47th minute, Varela collected an assist from Ondoa and fired a right-footed shot across the goal that left Caprile with no chance. It was his fifth league goal and seventh of the season. Cagliari felt the blow and struggled to respond. In the 66th minute, the third goal came: this time it was Robinson who found the back of the net, capitalizing on a pass from Varela and the wide-open spaces conceded by the Rossoblù defense. In the 79th minute, the curtain fell. Robinson hit the post, but on the rebound, Varela was the quickest to react and sealed the final 4-0 score, completing his brace.
