Jannik Sinner: Grandpa Antonio’s touching tribute is going viral
Jannik Sinner has fans of all backgrounds and ages: his successes on the court, combined with his consistently impeccable conduct, have won over millions of people around the world. Recently, a message from 89-year-old Mr. Antonio went viral online.
Accompanying a photo showing Jannik Sinner with Darren Cahill, Antonio wrote a few lines: “Dear Jannik, this photograph of you with Darren Cahill exemplifies what your team has achieved and symbolizes a peaceful, lasting relationship that looks toward a promising future.”
“Ever since you suspended your active career due to the well-known incident, certain newspapers—for no apparent reason and who knows why—have voiced a crude suspicion that the affection that for years characterized your working relationship and friendship no longer exists between the two of you,” reads the letter from the gentleman, published by a relative.
“That is why this news does not convince your fans, who posted this photograph with the intention of silencing those people. Until you speak out yourself, we can never trust certain sections of the press.”
In recent weeks, discussion has been rife regarding the possible date of Jannik Sinner’s return to the court. In recent hours, a detail has emerged that has reignited the debate among fans. The South Tyrolean champion’s name appears in the promotional material for the Six Kings Slam, the exhibition tournament in Riyadh rescheduled from December 27 to 30, which will feature some of the best players on the circuit.
Despite the doubts, there has been no mention of Sinner being ruled out in the promotional materials—a clue that many have interpreted as an encouraging sign regarding the Italian No. 1’s recovery.
The Six Kings Slam was originally scheduled for October, but due to the delicate geopolitical situation in the Middle East, it was postponed to late December. This decision could, at least in theory, allow Sinner to take part in the event if his recovery proceeds smoothly.
