With the five matches scheduled for Wednesday evening, the fourth round of the Women’s Serie A1 volleyball league came to a close, with all fourteen registered teams now having played four matches each, following last week’s mix of postponed matches from the third round and early matches from the fourth. The star of the evening was Vero Volley Milano, which defeated Bergamo on the road with a decisive 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-23, 25-15), led by Paola Egonu’s 22 points.

The Italian national team star’s performance sends a clear message to her rivals in Conegliano: with Wednesday’s victory, Vero Volley has caught up with the reigning Italian champions at 12 points, and even though the head-to-head matchup is still a month away, Egonu’s performance serves as an early warning to Sarah Fahr and her teammates, who had already played their fourth league match on Sunday, winning 3-0 against Talmassons.

In third place, with 11 points, is Vallefoglia, which defeated Cuneo 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 31-29): Alessia Bolzonetti stood out, scoring 21 points. Novara also secured a clear home victory, defeating Consolini of San Giovanni in Marignano in three sets: 25-23, 25-22, 25-16 in favor of the home team, which now has 6 points in the standings, leaving their opponents with 3.

UYBA defeated Talmassons 3-1 (25-22, 26-28, 25-20, 25-18): Yukiko Wada stole the show on a victorious night for Busto Arsizio, scoring 22 crucial points in the team’s first win of the season. Brescia also secured its first victory, coming from behind to defeat Florence 3-2: 23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10, with Andrea Mihaljevic leading the visitors in scoring with 25 points. Brescia thus breaks its winless streak: only Macerata (which has the day off today) and Cuneo have yet to earn a point.
