Davis Cup: Matteo Berrettini Left Off the Roster

Filippo Volandri, captain of the Italian national tennis team, has announced the names of the players selected for the Davis Cup Finals, scheduled to take place in Bologna in one month. The Italian team captain has confirmed the doubles pairing of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, who will be playing together for the last time.
Volandri then decided to follow the rankings for the singles players, selecting Flavio Cobolli, Luciano Darderi, and Lorenzo Musetti. Matteo Berrettini, who played a decisive role in winning the third consecutive Davis Cup in 2025, is surprisingly left off the roster for now.
The Italian captain could still make changes and replace some players in the event of injuries. Jannik Sinner will not return to the court until 2027 due to the knee injury that has sidelined him since the Wimbledon final and will not be part of the team in any case.
Volandri’s selections reflect this week’s updated world rankings. Cobolli is No. 6 in the ATP rankings, Darderi is ranked 23rd, and Musetti is 26th. The Tuscan has just won the title in Lyon—his first in four years—which earned him 250 points. Berrettini, on the other hand, is currently ranked 45th.
