Milan: A Disheartened Amorim Says, “I Knew It All From the Very First Minute”

Milan coach Ruben Amorim spoke with disappointment after the Rossoneri’s first league loss, a home defeat to Bologna: “Right from the first minute, I could tell we didn’t have the same energy as in other games,” said the Portuguese coach. “This isn’t an excuse, but it’s difficult to implement all my requests in just two months; consistency over the full 90 minutes makes the difference, and we’re not seeing that yet.”
The Milan derby is coming up on Saturday, and the Rossoneri will have only a few days to recover: “We’ll try to be ready for Saturday’s match against Inter; some mistakes happened because we lacked the right energy in certain situations. Tomorrow we’ll see who’s available; we need to figure out how to prepare, even if there isn’t much time.”
“I’m not here to make excuses, but I want a team that always gives it its all and improves over time. I’m convinced that, over time, this team will improve and grow, and we’ll try to come away with the win. But there’s no point in talking about the performance when we lose at home to Bologna.”
Captain Mike Maignan also spoke at the press conference: “Tonight is an important moment for the team, because it’s our second loss in three games, and it’s only natural that I’m here to speak with you tonight. We need to stay very calm because the season is very long, and every game will count—every match is important, and every point we earn is crucial. We need to avoid adding fuel to the fire by saying we’re weak or anything like that.”
