The Mexican Grand Prix feels like yet another missed opportunity for Ferrari, where the clash between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc flared up once again. The battle at the start sparked the Anglo-Caribbean driver’s fury, and in the post-race aftermath, there was no way to calm the situation down.

The seven-time world champion’s team radio message (“We have big problems”) made headlines around the world. And speaking to Sky UK, Hamilton himself added fuel to the fire: “The race was lost in the first few corners, because if we’d worked as a team, we could easily have finished first and second.”

Regarding Frederic Vasseur’s leadership of the team, Hamilton had this to say: “I think Fred is doing his best. Fred came to talk to me before the race, and I think he was nervous. Obviously, he wants both drivers to do well. From my perspective, if I were trailing behind and took any risks that ended up causing us to lose as a team, I think I’d have to explain myself. Because that action affects so many people. Nothing concrete has been done yet.”

But Charles Leclerc played it down, downplaying the incident at the start: “I don’t know if Lewis was unhappy with what I did, because what he did was also really on the edge. Maybe he was more upset about the situation as a whole; we’ll definitely discuss it. In the end, we both made a mistake going into Turn 4, but we didn’t touch at all. We both went wide, and then Max passed him. So I don’t think what happened should be the subject of so much discussion,” he said after the race.
