Booker Suffers Serious Injury: Olimpia Returns to the Market, but There’s a Major Hurdle

Devin Booker’s injury is pushing Olimpia Milano to the transfer market. The American guard will have to sit out longer than expected, as confirmed by Coach Peppe Poeta himself after the team’s win against Cantù. “Unfortunately, the injury is quite serious, and recovery could take a long time.”
There is talk of a layoff lasting several months, which will be better assessed after the medical tests to be conducted in the coming hours. Olimpia will thus resume its search for at least two players: a point guard and a big man.
However, the Milan-based club has a clear limitation: it has already used up all its non-EU visas available for Serie A, and to sign a player who is also eligible for the LBA, it will have to choose only from players with EU passports. Poeta had this to say about reinforcements: “You know the profile—if there’s a perimeter player who can help—but I’m not the one handling that; logically, they’re the ones who bring me the profiles. I have full confidence in Baiesi and GM Christos Stavropoulos.”
Sports director Daniele Baiesi had already spoken on the subject of the transfer market in recent days; in an interview with *La Gazzetta dello Sport*, he took responsibility for building the roster: “The responsibility for building the team lies with me.” Baiesi had left the door open to possible moves, clarifying, however, that “no one has ever said no to the transfer market” and that changes will only be made if “players who represent an upgrade” are available, without ruling out outgoing transfers either.
