Juventus is looking for the prolific striker currently missing from Luciano Spalletti’s roster. Neither Kolo Muani nor Woltemade offer the necessary guarantees, and Juventus executives know full well that any chance of qualifying for the Champions League depends on a striker capable of scoring consistently. That’s why the Old Lady has also joined the race for the surprising Gustavo Varela.

The Monza striker’s start to the season has been sensational, and his 9 goals in 10 games have caught the attention of many Italian and European clubs. Like other clubs, Juventus has also sent scouts to keep a close eye on his performances. Monza has acquired the player outright and certainly won’t let him go for a modest sum; furthermore, a clause in his contract stipulates that 20% of the profit from a future sale must be paid to Benfica.

Currently, the 21-year-old Portuguese forward has an estimated market value of around 10 million euros, a figure that will inevitably rise in the coming months. With a contract running through 2030, Monza is in full control of the situation and is waiting for substantial offers: the Biancorossi are unlikely to sell him in January unless an extraordinary offer—no less than 30 million euros—comes along.

Varela came up through the youth systems of Sporting, PAOK Thessaloniki, and Benfica, before gaining experience with Benfica’s reserve team and on loan at Gil Vicente, where he scored seven goals last season—a tally he has already surpassed this season. His strength lies in the versatility of his offensive repertoire: he can make deep runs, play with his back to the goal, and use his physicality in the box, but he’s also capable of linking up with teammates and contributing to the team’s build-up play.
