David Coulthard bets on Ferrari: his prediction
On the track he has long been a great opponent, but now he is betting big on the Cavallino.
Ferrari is coming off a 2022 of lights and shadows, with a car that is fast but not always reliable, and a pit wall that ended up at the center of criticism for its handling of a few Grands Prix that were crucial in awarding the world championship to Max Verstappen. In the wake of Charles Leclerc’s nine pole positions and more, however, many insiders are convinced that 2023 will tell a different story. And one of them answers to the name of David Coulthard.
The Scottish driver, who has battled against Ferrari throughout his career driving for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull, has now said he is confident that the new year will be much more positive for the Maranello team. “I believe in them, and with all the premises they have built up they will be in contention for the title in 2023,” Coulthard told the ‘Daily Mirror’.
“Ferrari is the most famous and oldest name present in Formula 1. And if I believe in their success, it’s not just because of their myth, but because of the times they are able to get on the track,” Coulthard explained. “In 2022 the fastest in qualifying was them, the car was amazing and Charles Leclerc knows how to exploit it.
“I believe a lot in the Ferrari drivers, and also in the team. After designing such a single-seater, surely with the talent they have they will solve their problems. They will win not because they have a Cavallino on the car, but because the car is fast and the drivers are formidable,” Coulthard concluded.
