Jannik Sinner is ready for the first Slam of the year

With only a few days to go before the main draw of the first Slam of the year opens on Monday, Jan. 16, Peter Johnson, the director of the Kooyong Classic, a tournament that precedes the Australian Open, revealed a backstory on Jannik Sinner that has fans excited.

The 2001-born South Tyrolean will make his debut in the opening day match against Britain’s Kyle Edmund. There is only one precedent between the two, a very recent one: in fact, Sinner overcame Edmund on Jan. 3, 2023, in the round of 16 match at the Atp 250 tournament in Adelaide, winning in two sets (6-3, 6-2).

“At the US Open, when he had match point against Alcaraz, he came really close to winning the tournament. For me, he’s one of those three or four players that you can now almost certainly say will win a Slam. Now in Australia with an Australian coach like Darren Cahill the public will be closer to him, because they really like that association here,” Peter Johnson revealed to ‘SuperTennis’.
