Filippo Ganna, bad fall on cobblestones and retirement
Alert ahead of Paris-Roubaix, Filippo Ganna fell at Ghent-Wevelgem.
Bad fall for Filippo Ganna at Ghent-Wevelgem, the first Belgian classic of the season. The Italian cyclist, about 140 km from the finish, fell on a stretch of cobblestones: restarted after a few minutes, the Ineos rider decided to retire almost immediately from the race.
The condition of the cyclist from Verbania, who probably decided to take precautions ahead of Paris-Roubaix, his real goal, scheduled in two weeks’ time, has yet to be assessed. Ganna, who finished second at the last Milan-San Remo, was given in excellent form.
