The beginning of the season was truly dominant, but despite this there was no shortage of problems.

Max Verstappen is giving his Formula 1 rivals no small scare in the days leading up to next Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix. The Red Bull Dutchman commands the overall standings, thanks to a win and a second place that came after a prodigious comeback. The latter result, however, came in at least poor health.

This was revealed by Verstappen himself from Melbourne. “I got sick, and in the last race I struggled a lot,” explained the 2021 and 2022 world champion. At home in particular I was really sick, I couldn’t believe it. I was also struggling to walk, I felt like I didn’t have a lung. Then I arrived in Jeddah and I thought it had passed, but in the first free practice I felt like I needed two full laps to be able to breathe normally.”

“I felt conditioned, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was one of the first in my career that I raced with physical limitations. It was really frustrating. But these three weeks have served to get me back in shape, and here in Australia it should be okay,” concluded Verstappen. Who also in Jeddah finished the GP in second place starting from 15th on the grid, and setting the fastest lap on the very last pass to the finish line. Rivals are warned.
