The “Let’s Build Kindness in Sports” award at Tennis Giotto
The “We build kindness in sport” award at Tennis Giotto. The award was given by the USSI – Gruppo Toscano Giornalisti Sportivi (Tuscan Group of Sports Journalists) and the Cor et Amor association to the Arezzo club for the construction of a red bench within its facility aimed at raising awareness against violence against women and stimulating reflection on the issues of equal opportunities, equality and the defense of rights.
“Let’s Build Kindness in Sports” is a project of national depth established in March 2022 to enhance the ongoing commitment of sportsmen or sports clubs in projects capable of conveying the values of inclusion, fair play and ethics. This award has previously been given to Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario for taking in a Ukrainian family fleeing the atrocities of war, Federica Cappelletti for projects conducted through the foundation dedicated to her husband Paolo Rossi, Davide Astori’s mother, and AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli. Tennis Giotto, therefore, is the first sports club to receive the recognition by virtue of an identity that has always seen it committed to promoting sports for all and organizing social and solidarity initiatives. The latest is precisely the red bench built inside the club in front of the courts, in the place where generations meet, to offer spaces for reflection and to reiterate a firm “NO” to all forms of violence, which earned the award of the jersey of ambassadors of kindness in sport delivered by Gaia Simonetti, USSI Tuscany secretary and delegate for social projects, in the hands of Tennis Giotto president Luca Benvenuti.
“The award was created a year ago to enhance gestures of the heart and projects that make sport even more of an ambassador of values and positive messages,” Simonetti explained. – We thought of Tennis Giotto precisely because of all the initiatives it carries out in the areas of sports, social and inclusion. The red bench in particular is a message that reiterates the “no” to violence in all its forms. Mom Paola’s participation, testimony and heart enrich a day of sharing and reflection, showing how sports can be the right tool to pass positive messages.” The red bench was desired by the board of directors of Tennis Giotto to bring a now-universal symbol of the fight against gender-based violence into the clubhouse.
