Matteo Berrettini reassures on his condition
The words of Matteo Berrettini
Matteo Berrettini spoke after qualifying for the round of 16 in Monte Carlo: “What happened at 5-0? If I knew I would tell you. I think a mix of things: I started very well but at the same time I felt very tense. It’s a tournament I particularly care about, I don’t have so many matches in my legs. It’s a little bit of a new period in my life, in my career, so it’s okay that I feel a little bit tense. I lost that game and I started maybe thinking a little bit too much. Yes I also had a set-point, I remember everything. The most important thing though in my opinion is that I reacted. Unexpected events are always there, especially in tennis and tournaments you care about so I’m really proud of how I fought back and how I overturned a result that seemed thrown away.”
The head is already match against Dane Rune. “It will be a very tough match also because he won pretty quickly today. He is a player who has already proven he is worth the ranking he has, despite being very young. In Acapulco I was not at my best, so it was not a match. Now I hope to go on the court and play a beautiful match: these are the atmospheres I like, matches against him and against the best players in the world are the ones I want to play and so I’m glad I have the chance.”
Closing remark on his condition: “Physically I feel good, this match was also a test: I had a lot of energy at the end, even after almost three hours I was still nice and lively so I am happy. The physiotherapist’s request? It’s a discomfort that I sometimes feel when I play on clay: I took an anti-inflammatory to ease the pain. The level of tennis is there: again I don’t have so many matches and mentally I’m going up and down a bit but I’m happy with my condition.”
