The South Tyrolean, coming off a derby win over Musetti in the quarters, was defeated in three sets by Holger Rune, who won in a comeback with a score of 1-6, 7-5, 7-5.
The 21-year-old from San Candido, who got off to a strong start, suffered a comeback by the Dane, who also took advantage of a rain interruption to hit his second 2023 final.
He will play for the title on Sunday against Rublev, who eliminated Fritz.
