Charles Leclerc on pole, Max Verstappen: “I’m not surprised.”
A result from the track that does not leave the world champion and leader of the standings astonished.
Charles Leclerc on pole position in Baku, where the Azerbaijan Grand Prix will be held on Sunday, will share the front row with Max Verstappen. And the Red Bull driver guaranteed that he did not experience Ferrari’s exploit as a surprise.
“Ferrari’s pace did not particularly surprise me,” was Verstappen’s comment at the end of the day to the microphones of ‘Sky Sport.’ “We were aware that Leclerc would be particularly fast here. Even in years when their car was not so competitive, he managed to hit pole. Plus there are characteristics of the track that suit them, so this result is not a drama.”
“It is difficult to find the limit here, as well as to find the right tire windows,” Verstappen added about the Baku circuit. “However, we are quite satisfied, although Leclerc seems really competitive this weekend. We will have to avoid mistakes in the coming days, because the points will be made on Saturday and Sunday. And it is so easy to make mistakes here.”
