Giro d’Italia 2023: Mads Pedersen wins in Naples, Andreas Leknessund confirmed in pink jersey
Trek Segafredo’s Danish rider Mads Pedersen won the sixth stage of the Giro d’Italia 2023 by finishing ahead of everyone in, 3h 44′ 45″, the 162 km with start and finish in Naples: beaten in a sprint by Italian Jonathan Milan (Bahrain-Victorius) and German Pascal Ackermann (UAE Team Emirates).
At the end of the race, the Aarhus native rider wanted to express all his joy for the result: “I am very happy, it was my personal goal. It was very difficult to go and catch the breakaways, so I had to use many of my teammates ahead of time. Gaviria started early, but fortunately I was able to jump him and win.”
A positive day also for Andreas Leknessund of the DSM team, who managed to confirm himself in the pink jersey. “Today was a good day, I enjoyed the Pink Jersey. We also tried to win the stage with Marius Mayrhofer but it didn’t go our way. I will feel ready for tomorrow’s stage, where I will try to defend the lead in the classification,” these were the words of the Norwegian at the end of stage 6.
