Marco Bezzecchi on the Ducati of the Mooney VR46 Racing Team set the best time of the day, in 1’20″271, in the second free practice session of the MotoGP class German Grand Prix.
The Rimini rider was just 40 thousandths ahead of Ducati Pramac’s Spaniard Jorge Martin and 81 ahead of the other Spaniard Aleix Espargaro on the Aprilia. Fourth was reigning world champion and world leader Francesco Bagnaia at exactly one tenth.
With a few minutes to go, Honda Spaniard Marc Marquez slipped at the first corner and in the fall dragged Ducati Pramac’s Frenchman Johann Zarco with him, who ended up on the ground in turn.
No physical consequences fortunately for the riders but practice interrupted with a red flag, with Bagnaia leading at that moment and then, in the remaining minutes of the session, dropping to fourth position.
Fastest in Moto3 was Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP’s Japanese rider Ayumu Sasaki ahead of Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Turkish rider Deniz Oncu and Honda Leopard Racing’s Spaniard Jaume Masia. Best of the Italians was Stefano Nepa, eighth on a KTM of the Angeluss MTA Team. The times are those in the first free practice session because the second was hampered by rain.
Wet track also in the second Moto2 session and the best time was Spanish Pedro Acosta on the Kalex Red Bull KTM Ajo ahead of compatriots Alonso Lopez on Boscoscoscuro MB Conveyors SpeedUp and Manuel Gonzalez on Kalex Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 MasterCamp. First Italian Tony Arbolino, eighth on Kalex Elf Marc VDS Racing Team.
