Euro 2024 qualifiers: England exaggerated, France needs only Mbappé
In the 12 matches played for the qualifiers for the upcoming European Championships, England’s 7-0 thrashing of poorly-trodden North Macedonia in the Azzurri’s group stands out: a hat-trick for Saka and a brace for Kane, Phillips and Rashford scored the other two goals. In Group C, Ukraine also won, taking a +3 lead over Italy, thanks to a penalty kick scored by Tsygankov, which was decisive in defeating Malta.
France needed only a penalty by Mbappé to overcome Greece and pull away from it in Group B, where Ireland also played, which overwhelmed Gibraltar with a dry 3-0 win.
In Group D, Turkey managed to get the better of Wales despite a missed penalty by Inter Milan’s Calhanoglu: goals from Nayr and Guler downed the Dragons (2-0). Chasing Turkey, first in the group, is Armenia, which defeated Latvia 2-1 in the dying minutes.
Finally in Group H, the challenge between Slovenia and Denmark (1-1) ends in a draw with a goal by Atalanta’s Hojlund among the guests, while Kazakhstan narrowly beats Northern Ireland (1-0) and Finland outclasses San Marino (6-0). In Group I, Switzerland is mocked by Romania in the final (2-2), while Israel and Belarus beat Andorra and Kosovo respectively
