Wimbledon, Italian draw: Giorgi and Trevisan risk crossing paths with Sabalenka and Swiatek
Wimbledon, Italian women’s matches in the first round
It will not be an easy first round for the Italian tennis players involved in Wimbledon: in fact, the draw of the pairings starting in the first round sees the representatives of the tricolor clash with level-headed opponents right from the start, with dangerous crosses even in a possible second round.
Italy’s number one, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, will face Camila Osorio, ranked number 81, while for number two, Jasmine Paolini, it will be mission impossible against two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova. For Camila Giorgi, however, first round against Varvara Gracheva, who precedes her in the world ranking by 24 positions. In case of passing the round very likely clash with Aryna Sabalenka, current world No. 2.
Instead, there would most likely be number 1 Iga Swiatek (who, however, at Wimbledon has never gone beyond the fourth round) to face Martina Trevisan, who, however, will first have to defeat a tricky opponent such as Sara Sorribes Tormo. Completing the picture are Lucia Bronzetti, who will take on Jacqueline Cristian, veteran Sara Errani, who will face Madison Brengle, and qualifier Lucrezia Stefanini, who will contend for passage to the second round against Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit.
