WTA Bad Homburg: Swiatek withdraws, Lucia Bronzetti is in the final
WTA Bad Homburg: Lucia Bronzetti is in the final
Lucia Bronzetti reaches her first career grass final at the WTA 250 Bad Homburg. The tennis player from Romagna would have faced world number one Iga Swiatek, who announced her retirement, the first for the Polish player since her debut on the WTA circuit.
“I am so sorry, but I have to withdraw from the match today. I had a restless night due to fever and possible food poisoning. I am not able to perform today and I need to take care of myself. I hope to be well soon. Your support in Bad Homburg was great, thank you,” the Roland Garros champion wrote on her Twitter profile.
The Italian still does not know her opponent in the final. In fact, in the lower part of the scoreboard, the U.S. Emma Navarro is already in the semifinals, but the final quarterfinal between Czech Katerina Siniakova and Russian Liudmila Samsonova, which was suspended Thursday night due to darkness, has yet to be concluded.
