Still worrying condition of Edwin Van der Sar
Edwin Van der Sar, 52-year-old former Juventus goalkeeper and until a few months ago CEO of Ajax, has been hospitalized since yesterday in a hospital in Croatia, where he was on vacation, because he is suffering from a brain hemorrhage. It is precisely the Amsterdam Lancers club that has updated on social media about the Dutchman’s condition.
“Edwin Van der Sar will remain in intensive care for the time being. His condition is stable but still worrying,” Ajax writes. Ajax shares this information on behalf of Annemarie Van der Sar, Edwin’s wife. The Van der Sar family, together with Ajax, is grateful and deeply touched by the many messages of support.”
Raised in Nordwijk, Van der Sar in 1990 joined Ajax, where he played nine seasons winning four Eredivisie, three cups and three Dutch Super Cups, one Uefa Cup, one Champions League, one European Super Cup and one Intercontinental Cup. From 1999 to 2001 he played for Juventus, however, winning only one Intertoto Cup.
He then moved to the Premier League, first with Fulham for four seasons, pocketing another Intertoto Cup, and then, from 2005 to 2011, with Manchester United, with whom he won four championships, three League Cups, three Community Shields, a Champions League and a Club World Cup. He ended his playing career in 2016 where he started it, at Nordwijk. In the national team he made 130 appearances between 1995 and 2008.
