Vuelta, Kaden Groves’ big hit
Vuelta, fourth stage
Fourth stage at the Vuelta a España 2023, with an exciting sprint to Tarragona but also numerous crashes that disrupted the sprinters’ plans.
The long-awaited Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) è took the victory, thus achieving his second success after his triumph at the Giro d'Italia.
Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) remains at the head of the general classification.
In today’s breakaway we did not è witness a great battle. A small group of three riders soon è formed at the front of the race: Eduardo Sepulveda (Lotto Dstny), Ander Okamika (Burgos-BH) and David Gonzalez (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA). However, their lead è remained limited and the peloton è managed to manage the situation well without conceding too much space.
On the only two climbs of the day no rider in the group è managed to break away, and with about 10 kilometers to go the attackers were caught by the peloton, which increased the pace significantly. With 4 kilometers to go, a nasty crash took out Bryan Coquard and Santiago Buitrago, respectively a highly anticipated sprinter today and one of the aspiring GC men for the Bahrain-Victorious team.
