Vuelta 2023, Damiano Caruso takes it philosophically
Damiano Caruso lapidary on Remco Evenepoel
Damiano Caruso è placed second in the stage finishing in La Cruz de Linares, stage number 18 of the Vuelta 2023. The winner, però, è was Remco Evenepoel, who was uncatchable for his opponents in the last kilometers, so much so that he arrived with almost 5' of advantage over the same Italian rider.
On the microphones of Eurosport, on the sidelines of Thursday’s stage, Caruso did not mince words: "It was a very hard stage, everyone who entered the breakaway knew, including me, that it would be very difficult against Remco. But we tried".
"Second place behind such a phenomenon è however, fantastic – the Ragusa man later admitted -.
Trying to stay behind him è like trying to chase a scooter. It's too much for me, but also for many other good riders".
Caruso&#egrave; trial, however, was useful for his team, Bahrain-Victorious: in the team standings, the one with headquarters in the small Middle Eastern kingdom è in fact jumped from fourth to second place, behind the entrepreneurial Jumbo-Visma that boasts three riders in the top three positions of the overall standings.
