Jannik Sinner, Mouratoglou go against the grain over Cameron Norrie
With only a few weeks to go before the start of the 2024 season, Holger Rune's former coach Patrick Mouratoglou wanted to respond to Cameron Norrie's expressed opinion regarding the rivalry between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz and who among the two will be Novak Djokovic's main antagonist later this year.
"I think 2024 will still be the year of Novak Djokovic. For the No. 2 role, however, I think Jannik is more ready than Alcaraz. Next season may be the one in which Sinner will have a chance to confront the Serbian often. Seeing the last months of 2023, I am convinced that he will beà ready to compete at 100 percent at the highest level" began the French coach as quoted by "TennisWorld".
"Alcara has had better results so far: he has won two Slams, plus ù 1000, è ahead in the rankings, è been number one in the world and probably on clay è superior to Sinner. I think, however, that on other surfaces, with the style of play he has displayed, Jannik can be superior to Carlos because of his ability to take time from his opponent and play the ball with great speed," continued Holger Rune's former coach.
"In this sport, confidence in your own means è crucial. Therefore, I think the last part of 2023 gave Sinner that feeling that he was ready to win major tournaments. He lost the final in Turin to Nole, but beat him twice in 12 days and won the Davis Cup. This last achievement è an incredible boost for him. For all these reasons I think Sinner can do very well, having more solutions in his tennis than in the past, coming to the net more often and more effectively. He has learned to read the game better and adapt to different situations. Djokovic è always has the advantage, but Sinner will be number 2 at the end of 2024" concluded Patrick Mouratoglou.
