WTA Toronto, fabulous start for Camila Giorgi
Splendid success to start WTA 1000 on Canadian cement
The only Italian left in the draw after the elimination of Martina Trevisan, Camila Giorgi holds the Italian flag very high at the WTA 1000 in Toronto: in fact, the tennis player from the Marche region brilliantly made it through the first round by crashing world number 10, Britain’s Emma Raducanu, 7-6(0), 6-2.
Despite an uphill start, Giorgi was good at keeping herself in the game in the first fraction, nullifying a set point and winning the tie-break without giving up a single point to her opponent. Raducanu then tried to ‘run away’ in the second set, taking a 2-0 lead, but Camila did not lose her mind and managed first to recover the break, and then to fly to victory without losing a single game again.
“I really like playing here, being back here in Toronto,” Camila Giorgi said at the end of the match. “I managed to impose my game, sometimes it didn’t work but today it did.
