Camila Giorgi bent Belgian Mertens in two sets
Important and convincing victory for Camila Giorgi at the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto, where she holds the title. The Macerata-born tennis player, after folding Emma Raducanu in the first round, prevailed in two sets over Belgium’s Elise Mertens with scores of 6-3, 7-5.
The Azzurra won the pass to the round of 16 of the Canadian tournament with attacking and effective tennis. After winning the first partial thanks to a scorching start (two immediate breaks by ours), in the more evenly balanced second Giorgi planted the paw in the 11th game, getting the break and closing the partial 7-5. Now Camila awaits the winner of the match between the two Americans Pegula and Muhammad.
