Vingegaard’s knockout bis at Tirreno-Adriatico
Jonas Vingegaard grants an encore at the Tirreno-Adriatico: after his victory in Valle Castellana, the Maglia Azzurra è repeated himself by also winning the sixth stage with arrival on Mount Petrano, and effectively mortgaging the 59th edition of the Race of the Two Seas. Vingegaard attacked with 6 km to go with a progression that left rivals Jai Hindley (who had lit the fuse at -7) and Juan Ayuso on the spot.
From there on, Vingegaard managed his lead over the chasers, who closed to 26" replicating the order of finish of Friday's stage. Vingeegard, who leads the classification with 1'24" over Ayuso and 1'52" over Hindley, is also confirmed in the Green Jersey while in the other classifications (Cyclamen Jersey and White Jersey) è the Spaniard of UAE Team Emirates is leading. The race will conclude on Sunday in San Benedetto del Tronto.
Definitely pleased with the Dane at the finish: "We always want to win. Today we had to chase the breakaway becauseé Carapaz was relatively close in the general classification. We could not risk it. Then, since there was a chance, why not aim for a stage win? Last year in March I was in good shape, but I could not express myself at my best. Two years ago, on the other hand, I got sick around this time but still managed to prepare for July. I have always admired Alberto Contador. His way of racing and his style have been an inspiration to me, so I want to win the Tirreno-Adriatico as he did".
Ayuso praised his rival: "I am the first among humans in this race becauseè Jonas at the momentè of another level. I was better today than yesterday so I tried to follow his attack. I would have liked to win the stage but it was impossible".
