Luciano Darderi's adventure at the Miami Open comes to an immediate halt. In his first appearance in the main draw of a Masters 1000, the Italian surrendered to Denis Shapovalov, currently number 126 in the ATP rankings, who won in three sets with a score of 6-3 6-7 6-4 after two hours and 27 minutes of battle.
Darderi got off to a bad start, giving up the serve in the opening game. Shapovalov repeated the break in the seventh game, increasing the score gap with his opponent and closed 6-3 in the first set. In the second partial forò the Canadian commits too many freebies and the Italian thanks, winning the partial at the tie-break, won by 7 points to 4.
In the third and decisive set Shapovalov finds his way back and places the decisive break in the third game. Darderi tried to stay in the match until the last, even canceling a match-point on 3-5, but in the next game the Canadian did not forgive on serve, gaining access to the second round where he will face Stefanos Tsitisipas, the tenth seed in the seeding.
