After a little more than two actual hours of play, spread out over two days, Jasmine Paolini made it through the second round of the WTA 1000 in Miami by beating with a score of 7-6 7-5 the American Katie Volynets, world number 121.
The match, as mentioned, starts yesterday and in the first set the 28-year-old from Bagni di Lucca, number 14 in the WTA ranking and the number 12 seed, goes immediately up 2-0 but in the third game immediately loses the break lead, then misses two break points on 3-2 in her favor and then it goes to the tie-break, in which Jasmine è the first to have a set point on 6-5, misses it, cancels two from her opponent on 7-6 and on’8-7 and eventually è she wins the partial at the second chance 10-8.
Three consecutive breaks at the’beginning of the second set, two are in favor of the Italian who keeps the lead until 4-2, suffers three consecutive games and here the match is interrupted due to rain. It resumes today and Paolini wins three games out of three pocketing the success. In the next round Jasmine will meet another American, the emerging Emma Navarro, world number 20.
