Nadal’s return to the court is decidedly bitter. Starring at the Cincinnati tournament (he had not played since Wimbledon, where he froze with an abdominal problem), the Mallorcan was beaten, in the round of 16, by Coric. The Croatian won in three sets (6-7, 6-4, 3-6 the match’s partials).
“Many times I have done positive things coming back from injuries, but in this case it is quite obvious that I was not ready to win. I came from a complicated injury that was difficult to deal with. With abdominal problems you never know when you will have recovered 100 percent,” Nadal’s own words reported by Marca.
