Flavio Cobolli won in Geneva the most beautiful and important victory of his career: the Italian tennis player beat world number 15 Ben Shelton on a comeback, qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Swiss tournament. A real feat for the 22-year-old Roman, who celebrated his first success against a Top 20 tennis player.
Cobolli è prevailed with the scores of 4-6, 7-6, 6-2. After conceding the first set dominated by services, the Azure è grew decisively in the second set, recovering a break and then triumphing at the tie-break. In the third set, Cobolli took advantage of Shelton’s drop to inflict an immediate break that took away the American’s confidence for good.
In the quarterfinals Cobolli will face Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko, world number 61.
