The result è disappointing, but not entirely unexpected.

Carlos Sainz chews bitterly but to a certain extent for the sixth place he suffered in qualifying for his home race, the Spanish Grand Prix to be run on Sunday at the Montmelò circuit. The Ferrari driver, at the end of the day, admitted that the characteristics of the track are not ideal for the Cavallino’s single-seater. Over the weekend, però, he had hoped for a different outcome.

"Before arriving in Montmelò – revealed Sainz to 'Sky Sport' – I would have expected a Ferrari not very competitive here. In fact, the track resembles China and Suzuka, where we struggled. During free practice forò we had gone well, and this had given me hope that for pole position we could have our say".

Saturday, forò told a different story and Sainz acknowledged it without mincing words. " Already in Q2 we realized that Red Bull and McLaren had something more than us. Mercedes also beat us, but only by 30 thousandths. We are confident that we can make up for them in the race, although they have grown so much in recent weeks, and we have to push harder,", è was the analysis of Ferrari’s Spaniard.

The goal for the Spanish Grand Prix, now, è clear. "If we start well and after the start we are in the top 5, the podium è possible. More ù complicated if we should be from sixth place onwards at the end of the first lap. But strategy matters a lot, and if we were set well at the start of the race then we can play for it", guaranteed Sainz.
