Wimbledon, Lorenzo Musetti speaks out on Novak Djokovic
Lorenzo Musetti doesn’t want to stop
For the first time in his young career, Lorenzo Musetti è into the semifinals of a slam tournament: his Wimbledon quarterfinal success on Wednesday against Taylor Fritz in five sets will lead him to face, in the penultimate act of the London tournament, one of the champions of tennis, the "highlander of the "Big 3" Novak Djokovic. A challenge that the Carrarino is already looking forward to.
"He has great experience, è a legend everywhere and especially here at Wimbledon, he definitely knows more about the surface and this court than I do and in the last few years he has done something unthinkable. I know him, I have already faced him and I know it will be a great match. It will probably be one of the most complicated challenges for me: I will give 100 percent, then we will see".
This year's is Lorenzo Musetti’s fourth participation in the main draw of the Wimbledon men’s tournament: in 2021 and 2022 he è stopped in the first round, losing to Hubert Hurkacz and the same Taylor Fritz beaten today, respectively. In 2023 he è climbed to the third round, being defeated again by Hurkacz.
Novak Djokovic è on the other hand, one of the most successful tennis players in the history of the London tournament: in fact, he has lifted the cup seven times (2011, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022), as well as Willy Renshaw in the Victorian era and, much more recently, Pete Sampras. Only Roger Federer, with eight overall wins, è managed to do better than all of them, at the men’s level.
