World Cup, the summoned

The Azzurri who will take part in the World Cycling and Para-cycling Road Championships in Zurich, Sept. 21-29, have been chosen. The great novelty of this event, in the wake of last year&#39s World Championships experience in Glasgow, è that of the simultaneity of the cycling and para-cycling trials, in a program that is announced to be intense.

The first race on the program è the Paralympic Team Relay, on September 21, a test as always spectacular and in which Italy has a positive tradition. Recall that at the recent Paralympics Mestroni, Mazzone and Testa took silver behind France. The next day, Sept. 22, stage the elite time trials, men and women. Italy will be able to count on the return of Filippo Ganna and the newly crowned European champion Edoardo Affini, for the women in the race Vittoria Guazzini and Gaia Masetti.

As for the Women Elite road race, scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 28, Elisa Longo Borghini returns in the blue jersey, a month after the Olympics, on a challenging course: 154.1 km for 2384 meters of total elevation gain.

As è tradition the last day of the world championships will be dedicated to the men elite test. CT Daniele Bennati is counting on a lineup full of young riders and with as many as 6 athletes at their first experience at an elite road world championship.

Last year in Glasgow Italy won a gold, with Lorenzo Milesi, a silver, with Filippo Ganna, and a bronze, with Federica Venturelli, in the time trials. Conspicuous was the medal haul for the National Para-cycling team. In Glasgow, the Azzurri won five golds, two silvers and eight bronzes. Prominent were the H3 gold medal with Mirko Testa and the bronze medal of Andrea Tarlao among the C5, in two particularly challenging categories with a high number of pretenders to the podium.
