Beijing: Lorenzo Musetti loses a set but moves on
ATP Beijing: Lorenzo Musetti-Zizou Bergs 7-5 4-6 6-3
Lorenzo Musetti flies to the second round in the Beijing ATP 500. Coming back from the final lost in Chengdu, the Italian tennis player redeemed himself by overcoming in three sets with a score of 7-5 4-6 6-3 the Belgian Zizou Bergs, who sold his skin very dearly.
Balance reigned in the first set, with both players adept at holding their respective turnovers. The jolt, however, came in the 12th game, when Bergs had a lapse of attention and Musetti immediately took advantage to win the break and the first partial.
The second set developed along the same lines as the first, but this time è Musetti was the first to make a mistake, as the Belgian managed to snatch service from the blue, maintain the lead and extend the match to the third and decisive set.
The third partial began immediately with a thrill for the Azure, who had to cancel a break point in the opening game before retaining his serve. From that moment, however, the winner of the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics climbed to the top by posting a four-game two-set lead, flying 5-2 in the score. Bolstered by the large lead, Musetti was able to manage the pace better and close the match on 6-3.
In the second round, the Carrara native will face Chinese Bu Yunchaokete, who è won the derby against compatriot Shang (winner of the Chengdu tournament).
