WTA 1000 Beijing, Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in semifinals in doubles

Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini earned a spot in the semifinals at the China Open, the WTA 1000 in Beijing. The Italian women defeated Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia and Germany’s Laura Siegemund 7-5 4-6 10-8.

Errani and Paolini reached their sixth semifinal in 2024. This year they won the title in Linz and at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, and celebrated in Paris the first historic gold medal for Italy in tennis at the Olympic Games.

They also reached the final at Roland Garros and the semifinals at the WTA in Miami. They will face Americans Sofia Kenin and Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who beat them just in Miami. "We will see how it will go this time" said Errani after the match.

"We were always positive in the tie-break. There was still tension, we played good points, we stayed focused" said Paolini. "It was a very tough match, in the end we were also a little bit lucky. We hope to continue like this".
