Federica Brignone throws a dig at Lindsey Vonn

Federica Brignone, top woman of the Italian national alpine skiing team along with Sofia Goggia and Marta Bassino, gave an interesting interview to “Il Giornale” a week from the start of the season with the giant slalom in Soelden next Saturday. Here are some excerpts, starting with a review of last season, which was really very good for her and perhaps the best of her career, even more than the one n which she won the overall World Cup in 2020.

“I wanted to overdo it, getting distracted by the results. Which of course stopped coming as mistakes and doubts grew. A crisis anyway comes during the’winter. What do I lack to win? I already had more than I dreamed of. I chase the lightness of having made my passion a job, and I hope to leave when I realize that I am no longer competitive, without fears, for’”.

“In the past I had set an expiration date for myself, then when I got there I saw that I still had desire, hunger and results and I stayed in it, especially with stress. I don’t want to think like that anymore, but to take it year by year”.

Then the Valle d’Aosta outfielder throws a dig at Lindsey Vonn, who turned 40 on Friday and plans to return to competition by imitating Marcel Hirscher five years after retiring: “Can I say I don’t understand? This I can announce: I am 34 years old, I don’t know when I’ll retire, but I promise you I won’t be back! I hope it is not a’nostalgia operation. And not because of the knee replacement. I think there is only one life, and I know what we female athletes have sacrificed so far”.
