Lando Norris tips his hat: “Piastri deserved to win.”
A team effort that’s starting to click for real.
Lando Norris ahead of Oscar Piastri, making good on the outdated "Papaya Rules". The Sao Paulo Sprint Race è ended in McLaren domination, with the Briton però crossing the finish line ahead of his teammate who had dominated the race. This allowed him to nibble off some important points on Max Verstappen, in the knowledge that he received forò a decisive help.
"I’m not very proud of this win, for which I just have to thank Oscar,” Norris commented in the heat. “He was the one who deserved the win, but we achieved the result we wanted in McLaren. I thank him and the team, also becauseé our pace è very good. I have great feelings ahead of qualifying and the Grand Prix tomorrow".
The overtaking move on Piastri è materialized with only two laps to go, and Norris explained whyé: "There'was a yo-yo effect on the track, and overtaking another car was very complicated. Plus we had a problem with dirty air, which slowed me down. I felt I could be faster, but I had no way to pass earlier. However, in the end everything è went perfectly".
Confirmation è came from Piastri himself: "The Interlagos track è full of bumps, and the race è was also difficult because of the very narrow roadway. We knew we would have these problems, but è it was a very good day for McLaren. We managed to get a lot of points, and we think we can do well tomorrow as well. I am optimistic".
