Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff in Matt Whyman’s latest book ‘Inside Mercedes F1: Life in the Fast Lane’ è returned to talk about Lewis Hamilton's farewell.
"I absolutely had it in my mind that Lewis was going to leave but I couldn't understand why he had to move to another team before I knew if we were going to be competitive. Also, it didn’t give me time to react".
"I had to d’urgently call our partners and perhaps missed the chance to negotiate with other drivers who had signed contracts a few weeks earlier, such as Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris", he revealed.
"We had a successful path together and now we have our own goals. That hasn’t changed it for me. I have a thick skin, you know. I’ve had hard times in my life and this doesn’t è compare", he concluded.
