MotoGp, Barcelona: Pecco Bagnaia flies in qualifying, Jorge Martin thinks about defending himself
Pecco Bagnaia in pole position in Barcelona
It will beà Pecco Bagnaia who will start from the first position in the last two rounds of the MotoGp season, Saturday’s Sprint Race and Sunday’s Grand Prix at the Barcelona circuit, the venue chosen by MotoGP organizers to host the final race weekend of the championship instead of Valencia.
The Piedmontese rider of the official Ducati team completed his best lap in 1:38.641, 55 thousandths of a second faster than a rediscovered Aleix Espargaró, who riding the Aprilia runs on his home circuit his last GP in the premier class. Third position for Marc Marquez (Ducati Gresini), 157 thousandths behind Bagnaia.
Only fourth Jorge Martin, who thinks more than anything else to defend himself and does not go beyond a better time that, compared to that of Bagnaia, è slower by 208 thousandths. Behind him, completing the second row, will be Martin’s teammate at Ducati Pramac, Franco Morbidelli (+0.245 from pole) and Pedro Acosta (GasGas, +0.308).
In the two races that will close the very intense MotoGP season, Bagnaia will have to make up 24 points behind Martin: it will take a feat to overturn the result, but MotoGP has known throughout its history to reserve twists and turns until the last corner of the last race.
