Michele Ortolani è imposed himself in the 84th edition of the National Open Championship: dedicated to the historic president of Federgolf, the recently deceased Franco Chimenti, è staged at the National Golf Course in Sutri, in the province of Viterbo.
The Milanese player overcame Luca Cianchetti and Filippo Ponzano with a birdie on the first playoff hole, who è consoled himself with the tournament’s best amateur award. The Lombard, in his first professional title, ended his effort with a score of 280 (70 70 72 68, -8) strokes.
"Franco Chimenti won off the course and remains a winner. I wish those who won this Open and also those who è distinguished themselves as the best amateur in the competition, that they can always be in tune with the spirit, passion and love for golf that Franco Chimenti continues to have: we must carry forward these values with behavior, especially in a delicate phase like this" said Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi.
"This è a competition that my father cared a lot about: it represents the expression of Italian talent. As a family we would like to try to carry on what he did: the goal remains to bring out these talents in golf and study" added Ugo, one of Franco’s sons.
