Club World Cup: Trentino yields in the final

The dream of bringing the men’s volleyball Club World Cup title to Trento for the sixth time is cut short just a few steps from the finish line for Trentino Itas. The 2024 Club World Cup è of Sada Cruzeiro; the Brazilians won 3-1 in the Final played this evening at Uberlandia’s Sabiazinho Arena, joining Trentino Volleyball’s own Trentino Itas at five wins on the roll of honor.

The challenge between the Champions of Europe and the Champions of South America, but also between the Societies that have won the tournament the most times, was therefore in the hands of the greenoro who, supported by the more than six thousand spectators present, had a better approach to the match than their opponents, always giving the impression of being able to control the match, even when a strong-willed yellow-blue lineup tried to replicate and reverse the trend.

È it happened in the first set, when Trento put the arrow on 16-15 after always being forced to chase, but è it also happened after the Gialloblù personality reaction in the second partial. On’1-1 Sada was able to turn the page again, containing several times the Italian attempt to get back into the game and taking home the third and fourth fraction dragged by a superb Wallace (23 points with 57%).

The understandable bitterness at having only come close to an extraordinarily important goal, however, does not detract from the great value of the silver medal that Soli’s team put around its neck this evening. After eliminating Lube on Saturday night, Sbertoli and his teammates in fact made life extremely difficult for the hosts, fighting in every situation with the weapons at their disposal. The rainbow silver medal (the second in gialloblù history) keeps the Società from Trentino on the podium for the tenth time (in eleven participations in the tournament) and bears the signature of Michieletto (21 points again tonight, with 50% in attack, 4 ace and a wall), Flavio (10 with 67% in first half) and Lavia (10 points with several important cues), tonight the last to surrender. Alessandro and Pellacani, the two players who grew up in the youth sector gialloblù, made the day less bitter by finding a place in the ideal sextet of the tournament.

“We knew that between us and winning the Club World Cup there would be a major hurdle to overcome represented by Sada Cruzeiro – admitted at the end of the Final the coach of Trentino Itas Fabio Soli – . The Brazilians put something more on the court and deserved to win the title, but we were in the game for a long time while suffering. We did not play the way we wanted, there were many inaccuracies, però we fought and this will not take it away from us. Too bad for the final result, we wanted it so much, but this è a group that wants to win and always fights to do so, as it shows every day in the gym. Let’s hold on to this certainty to try to hit the next goals”.
