Milan, Rafael Leao must stop: anxiety grows ahead of the Super Cup
Rafael Leao, exam outcome worries Milan
In spite of the initial optimism, with statements by Paulo Fonseca and those of the player himself that had tried to calm the environment, the outcome of the exams Rafael Leao underwent after the injury suffered on Friday night in Verona worries Milan in no small way, especially in view of the Italian Super Cup.
The Portuguese player, who came off at 32'against Hellas to make way for Theo Hernandez in the match then won 1-0 by the Rossoneri, has in fact suffered a left flexor elongation and will undergo a new checkup, with magnetic resonance imaging, in a week, on the immediate eve of the league match against Roma.
The fear, in the Rossoneri's environment, is that of not being able to see Rafael Leao in the next edition of the Supercoppa Italiana, which will see Milan engaged in the second semifinal (on January 3 in Riyadh) against Juventus and possibly, in case of qualification, in the very final scheduled also in the Saudi capital on Epiphany.
It will be only after the upcoming exams, however, that it will become clear whether Leao will be able to be on the field in the final phase of the trophy that Milan has won seven times, most recently on Dec. 23, 2016 on penalties against Juventus in the classic formula involving a single final. In the meantime, Fonseca è however, called upon to study an alternative, so as not to be found unprepared.
