Mateo Retegui closes out his 2024 poorly.
Retegui out
Not a good end to 2024 for Mateo Retegui: he will not take part in the Italian Super Cup. The Atalanta striker underwent examinations after the injury that forced him off the field during the match against Empoli: the tests showed that he suffered a first-degree injury to the left rectus femoris muscle.
The’inconvenience will keep the former Genoan away from the playing field for a few weeks. Despite this, the national team player could still accompany the group led by Gian Piero Gasperini to Saudi Arabia to support his teammates, but he will not be available to the Piedmontese coach for the semifinal against Inter on Jan. 2 at 8 p.m., nor for a possible final on Jan. 6.
Retegui's return to the field is scheduled for Jan. 11 in the match against Udinese or Jan. 14 in the home match against Juventus.
