Golf: J.J. Spaun surprises everyone and wins the prestigious U.S. Open

Huge surprise at the’US Open of golf. At the end of a truly exciting Major and with many twists and turns, victory went to J.J.Spaun, the’only one to finish under par (-1). For the 34-year-old Filipino-born American, this is definitely the most important success of his career.
J.J. Spaun put himself behind Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre and Norway’s Viktor Hovland: “I never thought I would be able to lift this trophy”, his words at the awards ceremony. Indeed, looking back on his career, the American golfer had, before his triumph at the US Open, won only one PGA tournament (Texas Open, 2021 edition). Now, however, he has managed to make his mark by winning a Major.
Winning the U.S. Major earns J.J.Spaun a whopping $4.3 million. And to say that, last year, he definitely seemed intent on retiring from goal: “I was playing too badly” his words. Instead, he succeeded in a feat that is already legendary: “I always tried to give it my all. I have been doing that all my life. What did I think when I won? I was literally in shock”, his final coda.
Badly for the Italians. Edoardo Molinari missed the cut by one stroke (+8). The performances of Guido Migliozzi and Andrea Pavan are to be forgotten.
