Vuelta, João Almeida beats Jonas Vingegaard in a great duel on the'Angliru

After a great duel with race leader Jonas Vingegaard, João Almeida won the 13th stage of the Vuelta a España, 202.7 km from Cabezón de la Sal to l’Angliru, one of the toughest uphill finishes in Europe with maximum gradients of 23 percent.

The Portuguese UAE Team Emirates teammate Tadej Pogacar beat the Danish Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider in a sprint to retain the red leader’s jersey 46 seconds ahead of Almeida.

At 28 seconds came Red Bull-BORA-Hansgrohe’s Australian Jai Hindley, followed at two seconds by Vingegaard’s U.S. teammate Sepp Kuss, winner of the Vuelta in 2023 just ahead of Vingegaard.

Tomorrow there will be another uphill finish in stage 14, the 140-kilometer Aviles-Farrapona, which also features two first-category mountain grand prix.
