F1, Toto Wolff doesn’t mince words on Lewis Hamilton’s future
For Wolff, Hamilton has what it takes to continue in F1
At the conclusion of the 2022 Formula 1 season, Lewis Hamilton will once again face a crossroads: he will have to decide whether to continue or say stop in the top motorsport series, discussing the extension of his contract, which, as things stand, expires at the end of 2023, and more generally whether he wants to continue racing in F1. A choice that for one of the men closest to the British champion, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, may be more obvious than expected.
Interviewed by former driver David Coulthard for ‘Channel 4,’ Wolff in fact said, “Lewis is a transparent person, he will be the first to take a step back when he actually can no longer compete for victory. Age? I don’t think 40 is a limitation for drivers anymore: look at Fernando Alonso, he’s back in the Circus and he’s a protagonist. Someone like Lewis, because of the way he lives his life and the way he pays attention to his form, can continue for a long time to come.”
