Juventus-Inter, Derby d'Italia worth more than three points

We are still in the first half of September, but the anticipation is already great for the first real big match of Serie A 2025-2026, the Derby d’Italia between Juventus and Inter. Beyond the points up for grabs, the one scheduled at the Allianz Stadium at 6 p.m. cannot but be considered an important match for the path of the two most successful soccer teams in the Bel Paese.
The Bianconeri started the championship with two wins in two games, 2-0 against Parma and 1-0 at home to Genoa, and seem to have rediscovered Dusan Vlahovic: the Serbian center forward seemed on the verge of leaving, instead he not only remained in the Bianconeri, but also contributed two heavy goals to the first six points collected in the championship by the Old Lady. In a press conference Igor Tudor cut it short, talking about “Inter being stronger”: statements that smack of pretext and a desire to relieve the pressure from the shoulders of the Bianconeri, who with a success would confirm their leadership in the standings and move to +6 over their Nerazzurri rivals.
On the other hand, Inter is looking for its own identity, also in light of two games without half-measures: the first ended with a very comfortable 5-0 win against Torino, the second ended with a surprising 2-1 defeat, at San Siro, against Udinese, despite the initial lead signed by Dumfries. A new defeat would undoubtedly activate new sirens of alarm, Cristian Chivu knows this very well and will try to sweep away the gray clouds that have thickened after the pre-Season knockout.
For both coaches this will be their first Derby d’Italia as coaches, although as players they have played several with the shirts of the teams they now coach. The last direct clash, played right at the Stadium on Feb. 16, rewarded Juventus 1-0 (decisive goal by Francisco Conceiçao), while Inter has not won since Feb. 4, 2024 (1-0, Gatti’s own goal).
The two coaches have been playing in the Derby d’Italia.
