Luca Banchi is ct of'Italy: "Highest point of my career"
Luca Banchi is the new technical commissioner of the men’s national basketball team. His presentation took place on Friday at the Salone d’Onore of CONI, and the new coach of Italy did not hide his great excitement, admitting that such a choice by the Italian Basketball Federation already represents the culmination of his entire career.
“I feel emotion and gratitude, this is for me the highest point of my career – said Banchi -In the process of falling in love with basketball, all my most important references have come from players and coaches of the National Team. Now to pick up their legacy is an extraordinary honor, as well as a responsibility that I began to feel from my first day in the Federation”.
“I am picking up the baton from Gianmarco Pozzecco– recalled Banchi -, with Latvia I faced Italy twice during the summer and had the opportunity to appreciate up close the strength and cohesion of the Azzurro group: the last summer was exciting, there are many talented and promising youngsters and we would like the National Team to play a central role in their growth”.
“As I had the opportunity to understand and appreciate as Latvia coach, the National team is above everything and everyone: if in a Club sometimes you struggle to transmit to the players the sense of belonging to the team, in a National team all that is unnecessary because certain values are intrinsic”,
concluded Banchi.
On the occasion of his presentation, Gigi Datome, now coordinator of the Men’s National Teams Sector, also spoke: “There’s great happiness and satisfaction in making official the new appointment of Luca Banchi, a figure we chose for his qualities on and off the court and for his extraordinary international experience gained in seven different countries. The summer that has just passed was full of satisfactions for Italian basketball, we restart with enthusiasm certain that coach Banchi will be able to give further authority to our project. We want all our national teams to speak the same language, to be recognizable in terms of respect and attachment to the Jersey. We are working for this, certain that the results will reward us”.
